Be Aware of Changing Light

Years ago, in Jackson, Wyoming, I was shooting an image in which the sky was dark gray. I was focused on Antelope Flats, a series of hills dappled with sunlight.

I kept shooting it for quite some time, varying lenses, exposures, and any other factors I could. At some point, I looked through the viewfinder and said, “What the hell am I shooting this for?” The light had subtly, slowly changed. The sky was no longer dark gray and the hills had no special light on them.

Be aware of the changing light.

Many years later, I was shooting all day at the wonderful 26th St. flea market. It’s no longer there, a big office building is.
