All the iWork for iOS apps let you create and manage text boxes (see Chapters 4 and 5). Text boxes give you tremendous power and flexibility. Pages for Mac adds features to text boxes in page layout documents. In general, you can edit these features with Pages for Mac. Often, those edits remain intact even after you’ve moved a document to an iOS device for editing with Pages for iOS, although there are some exceptions. As this chapter describes, text boxes created with iWork for Mac have even more features.

Word-processing documents tend to be fairly simple: They consist of words that are built into sentences and paragraphs. You can add graphics and other elements, but most of the time, you’re typing one word after another.
