Appendix A. Installing and Upgrading iWork

Installing iWork on your Mac or iOS device is a fairly straightforward process—essentially, you grab both sets of apps from the App Store, which comes preinstalled on your Mac or iDevice (see the box below). This appendix explains the details of the installation process, as well as how to install iWork for iOS apps on multiple iDevices, how you might be entitled to free iWork apps, and how to keep your apps up to date.

But before you can install iWork anywhere, you need an Apple ID.

UP TO SPEED: What’s with All the App Stores?

It’s easy to get confused by the different App Stores that Apple runs. Here’s the lowdown:

Apple’s App Store is an online store where you can download apps for your iDevice. To download apps via the App Store, you use the App Store app that comes preinstalled on your iDevice.

The iDevice App Store is different from the Mac App Store that you see in your Mac’s Dock. You use the Mac’s online App Store to (surprise, surprise) purchase programs that run on your Mac.

If you’re wondering where iTunes fits into all of this, iTunes is an app that contains the iDevice App Store and lots of other music- and entertainment-related goodies.
