Chapter 2. Essentials of J2EE

If you are new to the J2EE applications development platform, this chapter is a good place to start. Here, you will learn the J2EE architecture and become acquainted with important terms and concepts that are relevant in the context of web services. Specifically, we look at the J2EE architecture, the J2EE services and APIs, and how to assemble a J2EE application. We then look at the support for web services in the J2EE 1.4 specifications. That said, a full discussion of J2EE is beyond the scope of this book. You can find additional sources of information at the end of this chapter.
