Preparing for the Test
We feel that it will be very helpful for you to have a working copy of the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition, version 1.4.0 or later SDK available as you read this book. As of this writing, the download source is on the Sun Web site at http://java.sun.com/j2se/. While you are there, you should browse around and become familiar with this site.
The total installation file is over 36MB, but you can download it in pieces if necessary. It takes a huge amount of disk space to install—over 120MB after you have the installation file downloaded—so clean out your hard disk. You can also download the SDK documentation, which is very complete but also very bulky (another 150MB or so).
