The purpose of this chapter was to provide the reader with a good introduction to Java programming in general, as well as give you a glimpse of the power and usefulness of JavaBeans components. In this book, you will reuse existing JavaBeans components to construct small applications. In addition, you will use the JavaBeans API to construct our own JavaBeans. In the next chapter, we will make sure your development environment is set up correctly and prepared to work through the remainder of this book. We will also discuss the wide variety of tools and technologies that are available for your use.
