The Java2 Software Development Kit (SDK)
The Java2 Software Development Kit Version 1.2.2 represents the latest (at the time of this writing) version of Sun's own Java toolset. From the Sun Web site (see the Download Instructions later in this chapter), users can freely download both Windows and Solaris versions of the SDK.

Although Sun only provides support for the Windows and Solaris SDKs, the Java2 SDK is also available on a wide range of platforms from other vendors. Visit the Sun site at http://java.sun.com/cgi-bin/java-ports.cgi to see a complete list of Java licensees.
