Summary

J2EE is a highly sophisticated application development, deployment, and management platform. It supports n-tier application models and component-based application architectures. The intention of the J2EE platform is to provide a platform-independent model, API, and specification capable of hosting application components from many vendors. Although the J2EE platform is not tied to any vendor's specific API, the specifications enable vendors to add their own extensions to the platform. Also, the specifications do not impose implementation guidelines, which enables vendors to be creative in their implementations.
