Objectives of the Logical Adapter Reference Model
The primary objective of the adapter reference model is to define an abstract (generic) design model that is capable of supporting most adapter patterns and behavior. To achieve this objective, the model needs to exhibit several important properties, including the following:
A flexible component-based architecture supportive of plug-and-play capability
Clearly defined functional boundaries ensuring no redundant functionality
Consistently universal applicability
