Getting the Binary

The book comes with a CD containing the 2.4.4 distribution of JBoss. You can obtain the core JBoss server binary archive from the dist/JBoss-2.4.4.zip path on the CD. The Tomcat and Jetty bundles are dist/JBoss-2.4.4_ Tomcat-3.2.4.zip and dist/JBoss-2.4.4_Jetty-3.1.RC8-1.zip, respectively.

PREREQUISITES

Before installing and running the server, you should check that your JDK 1.3+ installation is working. The simplest way to do this is to execute the java - version command to ensure that the java executable is in your path, and that you're using at least version 1.3. For example, running this command on a Linux system with the Sun 1.3.1 JDK produces the following:

 /tmp 1206>java -version java version "1.3.1" Java(TM) 2 Runtime ...
