Appendix EInstalling MongoDB

This appendix provides instructions for downloading, installing, and running MongoDB using MongoDB Community Server. The instructions that follow assume that you are using Windows. If you are using Mac OS or Linux, please select the appropriate options for that OS.

INSTALLING MongoDB COMMUNITY SERVER

Because MongoDB is a server-based software package, you will need to install both a server that will run on your local computer and the client software that will access the local host. Let's start by installing the server.

Navigate to the MongoDB download page (https://www.mongodb.com/try/download) and click the option for MongoDB Community Server as shown in Figure E.1.

This will expand the MongoDB Community Server tab and present a form that can be used for selecting and downloading as shown in Figure E.2.

In the form on the right side, you will see drop-down options for selecting the version, platform, and package you want to download. Select the current version. You can then click the Download button to start the process of downloading the msi installation file for Windows.
