Chapter 18. Universal Postal Union
The Universal Postal Union in Berne, Switzerland, is an international organization that coordinates the worldwide postal system as an agency of the United Nations. It actually goes back to an international postal congress in 1863.
The UPU has a standards board to develop and maintain international standards for postal-related information exchange in such areas as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), mail encoding, postal forms, and meters.
Having said all that, we do not have a universal street address scheme. There is no universal postal code system.
