We have mentioned ISO, but there is also IEC, the International Electrotechnical Commission. The IEC is the organization that prepares and publishes International Standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies (http://www.iec.ch), usually in coordination with ISO and national standards groups.
ISO/IEC 18013 standard defines the physical and data content of an ISO-compliant driving license (IDL). It includes the human-readable (visual) features and the placement of ISO machine-readable technologies on the card.
