9. The Underlying Structure

You can find the default templates in the Joomla! back end, but how do you get there? Which conventions do you need to follow? How are they structured in terms of technology and content? Which commands do you use to change or adapt them? These are some of the many questions answered in this chapter.

Let’s leave the Joomla! administration interface and move on to the data level so we can look at the directory structure of Joomla! (see Figure 9.1). All contents of the template are arranged below a single directory, as you can see in Figure 9.2.
