New to Joomla 1.6 is the ability to create your own user groups and assign these groups’ permissions to both the front and back ends of the web site. Furthermore, you can set access control levels, or ACL.

Tip

Just because Joomla now has these features does not mean that you need to use or change them. If your site does not require specific permissions or access levels, don’t change the core groups and permissions. If you’re not experienced with these features, it is very easy to accidentally lock yourself out of your site.
