Abstract: In conversations at film festivals and universities, in journalism trade publications and film magazines, the relationship between journalism and documentary film has been considered time and again. Just why the conclusions to those arguments matter is not always made explicit – if journalism and documentary film intersect, so what? – but seems to be rooted in our expectations for, and therefore the bases of our evaluations of, documentary films and journalism.
