At its core, a piece of music is a structure in time built out of units of sound and silence. There are four predominant elements that make up any given sound:
Pitch is how high or low the sound is compared to the preceding or following sound.
Duration is how long the sound lasts.
Intensity is how loud or quiet the sound is and how that changes during its duration.
