Accidents and emergencies can be terrifying. Most arise with no warning, and may be followed by having no way to reach someone for help or to let them know you’re OK. One of the promises of the always-with-you, always-connected world seemed to be safety, but those promises have often fallen short.
However, it feels as if we have moved into a new phase in recent years, in which some kinds of accidents, natural disasters, and other emergency situations can be prepared against or responded to with a computational and digital advantage.
