Chapter Fourteen Bringing the pieces together

Information fragmentation is “private enemy #1” in our practice of PIM. Fragmentation makes all activities of PIM more difficult and more error-prone. What’s the antidote? With integration, pieces fit together to make a more perfect whole but still retain their individual identity. With unification, the pieces lose independence with respect to the focus of unification. A little bit of unification—in the form of an item event log, for example—may go a long way toward enabling several kinds of integration.
