The business model canvas as introduced by Alex Osterwalder (2010) describes the possible rationale of how an organisation creates, delivers and preserves value. It provides a canvas to describe, visualise, develop and explore business models. On the basis of nine basic building blocks, one can see at a glance how a company does its business and earns money. The model is highly visual and shows how the building blocks interlock. It provides a common language to discuss current and (potential) future business models.
