Mintzberg’s managerial roles
What do managers actually do in the workplace? Henry Mintzberg showed that managers do three types of things: informational work that involves sharing and disseminating information to those around them; interpersonal work that involves working with individuals to get the most out of them; and decisional work that involves doing deals and making tough choices. By understanding the nature of these different roles, we can all become more effective as managers.
When to use it
- To understand and critique your own style of managing.
- To evaluate the overall effectiveness of your organisation.
- To design a training or development programme for managers.
