What is the measure of success? The answer, frankly, isn’t important. And the question is misguided. So try this: How do you measure your success? For midcareer women, an answer can prove elusive. Cultural expectations, structural impediments, undervalued responsibilities—all of these things and others set invisible boundaries to define performance, acceptance, behavior, and success for women in the workplace. But those barriers aren’t really invisible. They are made of glass. We can see through them to the rewards on the other side, but we can’t easily claim those rewards as our own.
