Chapter 9Alternative Investment Strategies

In the previous chapters, we've looked at what we could call mainstream financial strategies. Mainstream investment strategies look for ways to use the corporation to shield income from taxes, distribute earnings to gain advantage, or create structures that allow virtually everyone to play within the system to find ways to maximize and improve outcomes.

Alternative investment strategies, on the other hand, look outside the mainstream to find strategies that sometimes involve more than the usual risk or volatility, and often demand different qualifications such as greater wealth, longer time horizons, or elaborate structures that truly require experienced professional advice.

In this chapter we explore some of those alternative investment strategies that are either most effective or, in some cases, simply widely spoken about but, in our experience, are of dubious outcome—all so you can be fully informed.
