Apps, short for applications, are little programs that add functionality to your Kindle Fire. Thousands of apps are available in the Amazon Appstore, designed especially to take advantage of the Kindle Fire’s larger screen.
Apps range from games (covered in Chapter 5) to magazines to apps that allow you to log into a computer remotely, somewhere else in the world.
Amazon decides which apps are allowed into the Amazon Appstore. You can download with confidence that you aren’t going to install an app from Amazon that will mess up your Fire.
You do need an active wireless connection to connect to the Appstore on your Fire and a valid Amazon account.
