In each of the following chapters, I'll share the attributes of each style so you can identify it in your reviewers and yourself. I'll also give tips for managing that review style and ways to change your style if you have that tendency.
Feedback styles can be managed when you consciously try to steer your ship in a new direction. Know that when someone is stressed or giving harsh feedback, they will slip into their base negative feedback style.
Most of my clients become Kind Collaborators about a year into our relationship. The process of encouraging positive feedback isn't first nature for most reviewers. Most professionals find the need to point out those risky spots overwhelming. Most people feel that working with a new person is about pointing out what needs to change versus what is already great. But to be kind, you need to do both.
Attributes of the Kind Collaborator
The ideal feedback style is the Kind Collaborator. These folks guide your ideas to a higher level. They are the angels who fill your weakness and let your voice shine, encouraging you to be your best self.
