28Perfection Is Impossible, but Collaboration Is Magic

This book is about starting a creative collaboration revolution. I hope this begins a conversation within teams about how to work together to create projects that everyone is proud of and happy to share with the world. It will take time, but it will be worth it.

In working with over 100 clients in 10 years, I am proof positive that collaboration is magic. If you work with a team, your ideas will be great. Plot the points of an efficient review process, and ideas can get polished in record‐breaking time without hurting the creators.

By helping people see that their feedback style is hurting the people around them, we hope to bring awareness that Kind Review is possible. Through more self‐awareness and belief that kindness has a place in the workplace, this is all possible. Having faith that most people are not shitbirds and want to do a great job at work is key.

With all these happy vibes, perfection is never possible. You and your team will not get this process right every time. There will be stumbles and projects that go awry. To err is human. We're not perfect creatures, no matter how hard we try.

Live in that space of imperfection. It's what makes our work human versus manufactured. It's not possible to hold anyone to your level of perfection – it's your unique world of one. Your taste in what is valuable and correct is your unique lens on the world. It can't be matched by anyone else.
