Respect the choices, abilities and limits of others

Respect, like kindness, happens when one person has regard and consideration for another. If we respect someone, we think they have worth and value; that they matter. Our attitude, what we say, how we behave and respond to others tells them whether we think that their needs and wishes, choices, beliefs and opinions, efforts, abilities and contributions have worth and value.

The problem is, we often struggle to recognise and accept, let alone respect, other people’s choices, beliefs and abilities as valid and worthy.
