Chapter 9. The Champion

The importance of a champion, or supermentor, to your career cannot be stressed enough. I had a few great bosses with whom I shared a thriving work relationship, and I even learned much from those whose behavior didn’t inspire me. I never had one long-standing champion, though, and I think that made the road to some promotions tougher for me. I switched companies four times over 24 years and I was also a bit reticent when it came to cultivating this type of alliance. If I could change one thing from the past this would be it.
