Entrepreneurs Are Opportunists
The Cookie Jar hadn’t been open long when I realized I had a problem. A morning problem. As in, people don’t eat cookies for breakfast. Every morning, I watched tens of thousands of potential customers pass me by without a glance. If I wanted some of them to come through my door, I needed to sell them what they wanted to eat in the morning. So I came up with the idea of adding French baked goods like croissants to attract the breakfast crowd. I found a small group of three French bakeries that had a great reputation for their baguettes and croissants. It was called Au Bon Pain, which means “place with the good bread.” I met with the company’s CEO, Louis Kane, to propose selling his French baked goods in our cafés. ...
