Coming Clean—with Yourself and Others

“Ron, you’re full of shit.”

These words came from my worst critic—me—as I rode down an escalator in the Philadelphia 30th Street Station, in the fall of 2013. I’d spent the past hour eloquently arguing to an important investor that Panera was doing just fine.

Jason Schrotberger of Turner Investments had challenged me on our same-store sales, which were still positive but not nearly as strong as they used to be compared to the rest of the industry.
