The individuation, quantization, and functional analysis of specific substances from a biological sample are the tasks of the majority of lab on chip. A particular class of lab on chip however exists, with a different task: assays of nucleic acids. In its nature, a whole DNA is constituted by a sequence of code words constructed from an alphabet of four symbols, the nucleobases. Decoding such a code and studying how it works is of paramount importance both for the study of processes going on in healthy living bodies and to analyze diseases and the way they can be overcome.
