Appendix 6: Detection Requirements of Selected Clinical Blood Tests

One of the key diagnostic analyses in almost all human disorders is the blood test. A large number of chemical and biochemical substances provide important information when quantized in blood, which are used for medical diagnosis.

Blood tests are quite different in scope, requiring the assaying of ions and small molecules, proteins and other macromolecules such as carbohydrates, and cells of different types. A few assays require accurate quantification of substances that are present in relevant quantities, as albumin, while other assays require the quantification of very diluted substances, such as Troponin I and R.
