Cisco's RIP Implementation

Cisco's RIPV2 supports authentication, key management, route-summarization, CIDR, VLSM, and discontiguous networks. This section describes the Cisco implementation of RIPV2, and explains how to enable and run it.

Enabling and Running Cisco's RIPV2

By default, the Cisco router will send and receive both version 1 and version 2 RIP packets, depending upon the neighboring router. To configure the router to process a specific version, you must use the following command:

router ripversion {1 / 2}
