Nonlinear Propagation Equations and Solutions

In this chapter the light propagation equations for three wave mixing in second order nonlinear optical media are established. The cases of sum and difference frequency generation as well as second harmonic generation are considered. Analytical solutions of these equations are presented for special cases. The numerical procedure used to solve the equations in the general case is described. Results for the optimum frequency conversion efficiency including effects of phase mismatch, beam focusing and walk-off, are presented. Polynomial fits are presented for certain ranges of the parameters.
