Abstract
Rolls are the main deformation tools in rolling mills. They often fail due to cracks, spalling, and wear in the process of service. This chapter presents the authors’ investigation on laser surface alloying of two different powders (C-B-W-Cr nanopowder and NiCr-Cr3C2 powder) on three different metallic rolls (nodular cast-iron rolls, semisteel rolls, and cast-iron rolls) to prolong their service life. Laser processing parameters, microstructure, and phases presented in the alloyed layers, as well as the mechanical properties of them ...
