Chapter 7 Large Documents
7.1 The Root File
When preparing large reports, theses, papers, and the like, it is easier to work on them by chapters or sections. The way to do this is to create a separate .TEX
file for each chapters or section and a “root” .TEX
file that (1) specifies the type of document, (2) the style and formatting to be used, (3) any new commands or macros you will be using, (4) commands to create special parts (for example, a table of contents or an index), and (5) the particular .TEX
files to be included. In Fig. 7.1 an example of a root file is given that you consisting of several .TEX
files.
