The Importance of Giving Genuine Gifts

There's no question that people love receiving gifts. If you want to capture the attention of people and fully engage them, then give them great gifts.

The question is, what is a real gift? And how do you give one to your reader base and experts?

True gifts engage people and help build relationships.

A gift is something given without expectation of anything in return. The recipient does not earn it. Gifts show your appreciation, or provide no-strings-attached gestures of assistance.

If you give a gift hoping the receiver will give one back, that's not a gift, it's an exchange. Gifts are not transactions. Gifts are free of obligation or expectations of reciprocity.

Genuine gifts can't be wrapped in marketing messages. Rather, they are wrapped transparently, without obvious motives or pitches.

Gifts don't need to be costly. Indeed, sometimes the smallest gestures can go a long way. Modern technology has made it very easy for businesses to give great gifts.

“The Internet (and digital goods) has lowered the marginal cost of generosity,” said Seth Godin. “Giving a gift makes you indispensable. Inventing a gift, creating art—that is what the market seeks out, and the givers are the ones who earn our respect and attention.”3

When your ideal base is receiving genuine gifts from you, they'll find great value in the relationship, helping your rocket ship make forward progress.
