This made no sense to me as a child – what was the point of having a piece of cake if you couldn’t eat it?! Now I understand the aphorism is about keeping your cake and eating it.
We tend not to like binary choices. We like to keep our options open. But we can’t do that indefinitely. We have to choose, or choose to drift. You have to decide.
