Choose Pragmatism over Ideology

This leadership lesson may be the most counterintuitive of all, especially when we are discussing a pope, but it’s the reason behind Pope Francis’s consistent inclusiveness.

Throughout his writing and speaking, the pope calls on other leaders to see things individually and based on their own merits. In the journal El Jesuita, Francis is quoted as saying, “I don’t have all the answers; I don’t even have all the questions, and there are always new questions coming forward. But the answers have to be thought out according to the different situations, and you also have to wait for them …”

Francis urges religious leaders to do whatever is necessary (within the bounds of ethics) to help one person at a time. ...
