Focusing on Verbal Communication

Be aware of and discuss the following five differences in language that exist between men and women who are trying to communicate what they need and want. As we help you work with each difference, we’ll provide insights for men about women and for women about men, as well as tips you can use immediately to alter ineffective communication patterns.

Difference One

Women tend to use more words than men, relying greatly on verbal and written communication throughout the workday. Men use fewer words, in general, and will interrupt people (especially women) when they’ve reached what men consider their “word limit.” (Of course, there are many reasons for interrupting, but this is a pervasive one).
