Mike Berman was promoted to president of the Boston Scientific Corporation (BSC) Cardiology Division in the summer of 1995 at age 37, just as intracoronary stents were beginning to eclipse balloon catheters as the preferred treatment for certain forms of heart disease. BSC, while a leader in the interventional cardiology business, was behind the pack in stent technology.
