CHAPTER 5Transcending Boundaries
Boundary-transcending work is a process of exploration, experimentation, and adventure—without any guarantee of success but the possibility of remarkable accomplishment. As the NASA website declares, “Humans are driven to explore the unknown, discover new worlds, push the boundaries of our scientific and technical limits, and then push further.”1 This instinctual urge has generated, and will continue to generate, amazing innovations that produce advantage for all—but it will require leadership, even if that leadership is nothing more than encouraging people to take a step into the unknown.
