The journey forward took Shetty to his native state of Karnataka, where in 2001 he founded an organization called Narayana Hrudayalaya (NH)—which in Sanskrit means “God's compassionate home”—and initiated a series of innovations in medical care. NH ( now encompasses a growing stream of endeavors that include hospitals, telemedicine hubs, and a health insurance program. The operation spans locations in India as well as Bangladesh, Malaysia, Mauritius, Tanzania, and Kenya.
