In working with senior executives, I have been privileged to get to know people who have their own rags-to-riches stories—but not necessarily the financial kind. Rather, many of these people start their careers with little or no leadership experience and no clear ambition toward leadership but somehow along the way leverage their experiences into a wealth of leadership talent and impressive track records.
