Selecting a manager with good potential to flourish in an expatriate assignment does not mean selecting someone with all the skills necessary for effectiveness. Some development will be required. To best accomplish this, we believe that language training and cultural training, which can be provided in the short term, and on-the-job experiences, which will play out in the long term, are essential.
