Greetings. Welcome fellow citizens and friends of the great Cherokee Nation. Welcome distinguished guests. It is my honor to appear before you on the 162nd anniversary of the signing of our Act of Union and Constitution of 1839. Upon my inauguration as your principal chief, Benny Smith admonished me to be a student of the Cherokee people and Nation. I take his admonition to heart. I present to you the state of the Cherokee Nation and share with you some of the things I have learned this last year.
