Howdy, neighbor," a cheery feminine voice sang out of nowhere.

Mike looked up from the ribs he was cooking on the grill and stared around. Sticking above the side fence was a head that obviously went with the voice: attractive, about forty, blond. Big hair, but not big hair like so many think of in Texas. He put the grill tools down and wandered closer to the fence.

"Sorry I haven't been over to welcome you," the woman continued, "but I just got back from a trip and noticed somebody had moved in. I normally bring cookies or a pie over when someone moves into the neighborhood. So, yeah. Sorry." She paused. "My name's Tanya, by the way. Tanya Knoll. I, uh... I live next door to you."
