To get more of what you expect and model, it is useful to provide some extrinsic motivation to give the desired conduct a try. To key into the motivational benefits of reward, follow these principles:

  • Understand the power of reward.

  • Make the rewards known in advance.

  • Tailor rewards to each recipient's interests if possible.

  • Follow through on promised rewards.

  • Make the rewards public.
