Leadership That Matters

 

Introduction

The ancient Roman writer Horace said that what you write should be kept private for nine years before being shown to others. Perhaps that gives an author enough time to reflect and decide whether to share it at all! This book has been in the making for over a decade now, so it’s clearly time to share our thoughts with others.

Since 1980 we have worked on an approach to understanding leadership. We called our approach “visionary leadership” because we felt that at heart our approach is about seeing the big picture. To us, this means having a broad scope of understanding people and how they behave in organizations. Even more, the term “visionary” implies a long-term view, a strategic perspective that extends over time.
