Communicate Your Expectations and Needs

Here’s a fairly common conversation with some clients:
Manager: We have a lot of talented staff, but many of them have a silo mentality and just focus on their work. I just can’t seem to get my people to see the big picture.
Consultant: Are you showing them the big picture?
Manager: [Long, embarrassed pause.]
Sometimes leaders are convinced that they’ve made their expectations and priorities clear to others, yet conversations with their staff reveal confusion or ignorance of the priorities.
